For me, moving from the Gospels to the Pauline Letters is analagous to my transition from working in the manufacture in of tablet pharmaceuticals to biopharmaceuticals.
In tablet production, the final product is the tablet. The technology is tweaked over time, but the fundamentals of drugs, tablet binders, and powder lubricants are understood in relation to that final product.
The paradigm shift in moving to biotech is that the manufacture is accomplished by living cells that need to be developed and continuously nurtured into expressing one specific antibody that will be purified and injected directly into the vein of the patient; no saliva, stomach acid, or intestines as a protection of last resort. Because of the step-by-step sterility involved, the protection of cell line integrity to prevent potential mutations, and the constant nurturing of the living cells, in biotech the process is the product.
Where my experience with the New Testament was initially only through the Gospels, my relationship with Scripture was episodic. Read a little, or turn to Scripture in need, take my interpretation, apply it to my day. Now my relationship with Scripture through Paul is becoming immersion through all of the ancillary study. My relationship is no longer just episodic, my relationship with Scripture, and my strenghtening in Christ, is the process.
